Ash and rock, smoke and mud
The last grain fell on bloodstained ground
The king is dead, no heir is left
Marauding hordes burnt our house and stole our brute
without sentence

Justice is what falls first in war
We cannot stay here: Flee now!
And make your way to our assembly point

A king of right, a time of peace
But it all collapses in these days of war

A painful truth: Too few survived!
And winters rage will let us starve to death
The anger grows; who's the guilty one?
Once again it's the bravest man who suffers greatest loss

The best defense is still a flight to the front
